WHY IS THE TWIN CITY MILE THE PROJECT FOCUS?
The City of Stanwood's historical downtown and the train station are the anchors of downtown activity. Two future parks will anchor the Twin City Mile. Focusing on a single corridor will help the City to invest resources that create a sense of place, a point of community pride and a project that the states goals and vision.
WHAT ARE THE PROJECT’S GOALS?
The project is seeking to invest in the downtown business district infrastructure, support economic development goals and promote the concept of buying local. By unifying the downtown twin city mile, the project will connect and enhance the quality of the historic east and west district town centers. The project will help to enhance access to businesses and create pedestrian friendly streets. By creating inviting community park spaces in addition to pedestrian improvements, the Twin City Mile project will encourage share use of the streets for community festivals.
WHO IS ON THE STEERING COMMITTEE?
The Steering Committee consists of business owners, representatives from the City, Chamber of Commerce, Arts community and the Stanwood Historical Society. WHAT TYPES OF PROJECTS ARE BEING CONSIDERED FOR THE TWIN CITY MILE PROJECT?
The information includes samples of the types of improvements being considered. Gateway signage, pedestrian improvements, public urban parks, streetscaping elements, and other aesthetic treatments are under consideration. This online open house and public feedback period during May, 2022 will be an important factor in the selection of final projects that are proposed to the Stanwood City Council.
